Unorthodox Phrases/deadBeat Interviews

deadBeat Vs Unorthodox Phrases

April 10th
Hair Hole
Columbia, MO

GrindTime battle vet Unorthodox Phrases
will be traveling all the way from Florida to face
No Coast's title belt holder deadBeat in April.
I caught up with both of them for some insight.
-Dr. U.G.Z.

What's your greatest accomplishment in battles so far?

UP: Traveling to other divisions and being able to perform at a high level when all odds are against me.

What sets you apart from other battle rappers?

UP: I just naturally standout. I don't take battling too serious. I do my own thing and have a lot of fun doing so.

What are your tactics to take the W against deadbeat?

UP: I can only do the best I can. If I win then so be it. If not, then it wasn't enough and I'll learn from the experience.

------------------------------------------------------------------

What's your greatest accomplishment in battles so far?

dB: I love being a part of the whole No Coast ride. We're the scrappy little underdog league that you can't help but love.

I've been doing these goofy battles and we've started to get noticed outside of Missouri. I think the biggest accomplishment is pulling ourselves up from nothing, and getting noticed while we're doing something that we love.

What else are you working on?

dB: I'm working on 2 projects.

One is a stand-alone instrumental album. I play 7 instruments, mainly guitar, bass, drums and keyboards. I also do a lot of sample manipulation, and use samples and my instrumentation together in my mixes. The project is going to be called 'First Contact' and is a space-themed, futuristic sounding instrumental album that will be released probably around August.

The other project I'm working on is going to be a rap mixtape, done my way. I'm going to take some of my favorite beats made by other producers, and put my own spin on them (reworking their beats). After that, me and my associates will proceed to lace the tracks with hot fire.

What are your tactics to take the W against Unorthodox Phrases?

dB: Well...I do have tactics to go at him, and I am excited about the things that I've come up with, but I'd rather not share them before the battle. I do have unique angles for him though, and I think he'll have some for me. It should be a great battle. I know Phrases is a beast, and it's going to force me to step my game up to new levels because of it.
